The Mugai Story
Where earth, fire, and human hands create something extraordinary.
Rooted in Craft
Mugai was born from a simple belief: that the objects we surround ourselves with should carry meaning. Each piece in our collection is handcrafted by skilled artisans — shaped on the wheel, glazed by hand, and fired with care. No two pieces are exactly alike, and that is exactly the point.
We draw inspiration from the rich ceramic traditions of South Asia — from the earthenware of Tamil Nadu to the stoneware of Japan — blending heritage techniques with contemporary design to create pottery that feels both timeless and fresh.
Our Mission
We exist to bridge the gap between artisan craftsmanship and modern living. In a world of mass production, we champion the handmade — pottery that tells a story, that ages beautifully, and that turns everyday moments into quiet rituals.
Through our online store and immersive 3D technology, we bring the studio experience to your screen. Rotate each piece, zoom into the glaze detail, and use augmented reality to see how it looks on your table — all before it arrives at your door.
Our Artisans
The hands behind every piece. Meet the makers who bring clay to life.
Master Potters
Our team of skilled artisans brings decades of experience in traditional pottery techniques, from wheel throwing to hand building and glaze formulation.
Glaze Artists
Each glaze is developed in-house, tested through countless firings to achieve the perfect colour, texture, and food-safe finish that defines the Mugai aesthetic.
Quality & Care
Every piece passes through multiple quality checks — inspected for form, glaze integrity, and balance — before it earns the Mugai mark.
Commitment to Craftsmanship
Every Mugai piece begins as a lump of raw clay and passes through a journey of shaping, drying, bisque firing, glazing, and final firing — a process that takes days and demands patience at every step.
We source our clays and minerals responsibly, favour traditional firing methods, and never rush the process. The slight variations in colour, texture, and form are not flaws — they are signatures of the human hand, and we celebrate them.
Our Heritage
A crossroads of cultures and traditions is at the heart of Mugai. Our pottery reflects a rich multicultural identity — borrowing from Peranakan motifs, South Asian earthenware traditions, and the minimalist sensibility of East Asian ceramics.
As a studio, we are proud to contribute to the local craft ecosystem and to share our artisans' work with the world through technology and thoughtful design.
